In fact Walcheren is not really an island. For more than one hundred years it has been joined to the mainland by the Sloe dam and is therefore a peninsula. So it does not have the disadvantages, but has all the advantages of a island. Sheltered, varied, everything within cycling distance, a long coastline of 22 kilometres (!) and the sea always within reach...proteced by high dunes on the north and soud coast, a strong dike at Westkapelle and a five kilometre long boulevard in Vlissingen. And in the middle a colourful variety of natural parks, villages and towns, water and agricultural land. And the island feeling dominates....
